Snogging and service

I know what you're thinking. The first word that comes to mind when I say inappropriate displays of affection is "teenager", well folks I'm here to tell you that you're WRONG! In fact, the young folk of my generation are down right modest and easy to handle. Holding hands across their table, a quick kiss on the check before sitting down, some guys even pull out the chair for their lady. How precious, right?!

So let's switch focus from the adorable young couples who are making goo-goo eyes at each other across the table and zoom in on that older couple making out in table 1. One word. Gross. Here's how it went down.

A couple came into the restaurant, they were probably late 50's early 60's and they were 15 minutes late for their reservation. The first thing the gentleman tells me is, "I'm so sorry we're late, we were having hot intimacy before we came here." I was speechless. The woman giggled as I led them to their table. When I asked them if they were celebrating anything special I was surprised to hear the still giggling woman tell me that they were on a first date! "How cute!", I thought and tried to brush off the awkward intimacy comment from before.

Later that evening I was walking around to see which tables need a refill on water. I made my way near table 1, only to find them sucking face. I'm not talking cute little kisses either, these people were full on making out and groping each other. They were getting pretty crazy for two people on a first date and their poor server had to keep interrupting their make out sessions to give them food and drop the check. Take it to go people...please.

Here's the point I'm trying to make, nobody wants to see it. Young, middle aged or old, we as a staff do not need to see or hear about how intimate you get with each other. Keep it classy please and don't snog or feel your partner up while dining in a restaurant because as laughable as it is, it's also quite awkward.

Once upon a time.

Once upon a time in a land far away, I was a restaurant host. After ending my employment at an establishment that will remain unnamed, I decided It was my duty to the world to teach you, the public (namely those who have never worked in food service) the behind the scenes of restaurants, tell some stories and share some of the most annoying moments from my time as a host. My hopes are that in sharing everyone can become a little more understanding and also, a little entertained.  So welcome to my stories, to my blog. Enjoy!
